About the position

The Software Asset Manager position is a fully remote role available to candidates across the United States, excluding Hawaii and U.S. Territories. This position is pivotal in managing the software assets of the organization, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements, and optimizing software usage across various departments. The Software Asset Manager will work closely with different teams to assess their software needs and identify the most suitable solutions to meet those needs. This role involves negotiating license agreements with software vendors to secure the necessary rights for software usage in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. In addition to managing the software inventory, the Software Asset Manager is responsible for leading efforts to monitor software usage, ensuring compliance with license agreements, and identifying any potential licensing issues. The role also includes the proper disposal of software in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, which involves removing software from devices that are no longer in use. The Software Asset Manager will develop and implement policies and procedures related to the acquisition, organization, and disposal of software assets, ensuring adherence to these policies by all employees. The position requires providing technical subject matter expertise to senior leaders and may involve special projects as needed. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial drive, capable of deconstructing and solving problems, investigating underlying issues, and understanding the reasons behind software asset management challenges. This role operates as an individual contributor and requires strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including senior executives and various departmental teams, as well as external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the software needs of various departments and determine suitable software solutions.
  • Negotiate license agreements with software vendors to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Manage the organization's software inventory, ensuring effective organization and tracking of software licenses and maintenance contracts.
  • Monitor software usage to ensure compliance with license agreements and identify potential licensing issues.
  • Ensure proper disposal of software in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to software asset management.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to senior leaders.
  • Handle special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of asset management experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and influence senior leadership.
  • Strong financial understanding through experience or education.
  • Strong analytical and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in setting up policies and procedures in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven execution of large scale and complex projects.
  • Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Xensam or a similar Software Asset Management tool.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, process mindset, problem solving, and data acumen.
  • Attention to accuracy and execution is a must.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
