About the position

We are seeking a full-time Software Certification Engineer 2 in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for working with software development teams to ensure compliance to regulatory and internal standards through certification of Garmin Aviation software releases by preparing certification documentation, and/or by conducting software quality assurance activities. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and quality of our software products, ensuring they meet both internal and external standards. As a Software Certification Engineer 2, you will conduct and support Software Quality Assurance (SQA) audits on increasingly complex projects to ensure compliance with RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C and Garmin standards. You will draft software certification plan documents and modify or develop scripts to aid in the completion of documents and audits. Your participation in the maintenance of software standards and forms will be essential, as will your support for high-level software product testing as needed. You will be expected to propose solutions to issues that arise in document completion or audit closure, collaborating with teams to add value to software processes and certification. Conducting root cause research involving source code analysis, requirements, testing, or process will be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you may approve software life cycle data for compliance to RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C, in support of product TSOAs or conformities. Sharing your process expertise with product development teams and offering suggestions for process improvements will be key to your success in this role. You will also provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem-solving techniques and work cooperatively with Engineering teams to negotiate resolutions for issues found in SQA functions.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field
  • A minimum of 1 year relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must possess a minimum of 1 year experience in at least one of the following areas: software development processes, process auditing, or aviation software regulatory documentation
  • Demonstrated proficient use and knowledge of engineering tools to complete well defined basic tasks and/or projects
  • Superior organizational, analytical skills, time management and follow-up skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel
