About the position

Caliola Engineering is seeking a Software Defined Radio (SDR) Engineer to support the development of innovative wireless communication technologies. This role involves applying RF and mixed-signal capabilities along with digital signal processing to design, develop, and implement embedded software for SDR systems. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver who enjoys tackling complex technical challenges and mentoring a talented team in advancing SDR engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype innovative technologies for software defined radio systems, antennas, and circuits.
  • Test and troubleshoot SDR hardware, FPGA development systems, and RF signals using test and measurement equipment.
  • Support the development and testing of novel processing algorithms for SDR.
  • Develop software and firmware source code in C/C++, Embedded C, and other languages.
  • Implement and maintain test harnesses for wireless communications product development.
  • Plan and execute SDR operational testing to demonstrate performance in communication systems.
  • Optimize SDR algorithms and implementations to meet operational needs.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to define requirements for new signal processing algorithms.
  • Prepare technical documentation including design specifications and test reports.

Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field plus 2 years of experience.
  • Experience in wireless communication, data processing, and signals collection.
  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with SDR frameworks like GNU Radio.
  • Familiarity with RF lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience integrating SDR components with external systems.
  • Knowledge of modern digital modulation techniques and modem design.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in Python and/or C++
  • Knowledge of OSI layers of communication or networking systems.
  • Experience with version control software like GIT.
  • Digital design and FPGA development experience.
  • Familiarity with design software like Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, or Microwave Office.
