About the position

The Software Development Engineer Intern position at Amazon Web Services (AWS) focuses on machine learning chip architecture. This full-time internship offers students the opportunity to work on innovative solutions for large-scale machine learning workloads, bridging the gap between software and hardware teams. Interns will engage in performance improvements on existing AWS hardware platforms and contribute to the development of future product optimizations.

Responsibilities

  • Accelerate large-scale machine learning workloads across algorithms, software, and hardware.
  • Interface between software and hardware teams to align silicon capabilities with application requirements.
  • Drive performance improvements on existing AWS hardware platforms.
  • Propose, evaluate, and develop hardware optimizations for future product generations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related fields, with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and September 2026.
  • Knowledge or experience in computer architecture and silicon design.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C++, Rust, and Python.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with machine learning applications and performance tuning on accelerators like GPUs or TPUs.
  • Experience with RTL coding using Verilog or SystemVerilog.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to present ideas clearly in verbal and written form.
  • Technical fluency in discussing architectural concepts and algorithms.
