About the position

Apex Systems is seeking a Chief Software Architect to join the CTO team for a complex, large-scale DoD program. This role involves leading the planning and development of overall systems architectures, ensuring optimal business and mission solutions through cloud strategies and automation. The Chief Software Architect will drive cultural and technological change, focusing on high-performance capabilities, innovation, and best practices in software development.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design of high-performance capabilities for DoD and DISA.
• Partner with Task Order technical leadership to ensure implementation of software development best practices, standards, guidelines and drive consistency across the IDIQ.
• Drive innovation and industry trend awareness; lead teams in DevOps & Agile best practices and mentor technical teams.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define system requirements and translate them into secure, scalable solutions.
• Integrate new technologies into architectures and evaluate tools for high-quality delivery.
• Support the CTO team in driving innovation, creation of Roadmaps, and thought leadership within the customer domain.
• Document model development processes, results, and best practices for knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 7+ years of experience or 15+ years in software development/architecture.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, cloud computing, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
• In-depth knowledge of system architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with data architectures and pipelines for structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum ceremonies and experience with Agile work management tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree with 15+ years in systems architecture and leadership roles.
• Strong proficiency in scalable microservices, UI/UX design, and full-stack development.
• Proven expertise in mission software solutions related to data science, machine learning, or similar technologies.
• Previous experience with the DISA domain, and the DoD or Intelligence Community communities.
• Familiarity with AI/ML models for processing and analyzing large datasets.
• Completed certifications in system architecture, cloud, or network solutions.
