About the position

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking an Advanced Information Technologist - Software Developer to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team in Ridley Park, PA, Seattle, WA, or Hazelwood, MO. This team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders across BDS business programs and functions, and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products. As an Advanced Information Technologist - Software Developer, you will be a thought leader in how to design, implement, manage, and scale data pipelines in support of the BDS Data Analytics Platform leveraging modern cloud architecture design, hybrid cloud technologies, data migration technologies, and others. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting data pipelines and deploying them in a cloud infrastructure. This position requires a resourceful, self-driven, outcome-oriented individual with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to partner, execute, and communicate skillfully while solving complex problems in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with large scale data platforms, cloud computing, hybrid clouds, software development, and requirements management. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and must be efficient in working both independently and across dynamic development organizations. The position will involve designing, developing, unit/integration testing, upgrading, and building software code to provide new functionality and extend/modify existing code using object-oriented software methodologies and working with cloud stack technologies. Effective communication with project managers, development teams, and customers is essential. You will engage frequently and work closely with the Mission Accelerator Architecture team and Project Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement APIs that expose data and functionalities of the data product.
  • Create processes for extracting, transforming, and loading data from various sources into data warehouses or databases.
  • Create detailed and clear API documentation to help other developers understand how to use the APIs.
  • Perform unit, integration, and load testing to ensure APIs function correctly and handle the expected load.
  • Update and maintain APIs, addressing bugs and implementing new features as required.
  • Conduct thorough testing of software components and resolve any bugs or issues that arise.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define and implement software requirements.
  • Improve performance and ensure scalability by identifying and resolving bottlenecks.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java).
  • Familiarity with data engineering tools in AWS.
  • Experience with API frameworks and tools (e.g., Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman).
  • Understanding of RESTful and GraphQL API design principles.
  • Familiarity with authentication and security practices.
