About the position

The Software Developer in Test (SDET) at Syms Strategic Group (SSG) plays a crucial role in supporting a large Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) nationwide program. This position involves designing and implementing test automation strategies, creating and managing automation test plans, and collaborating with multiple Scrum teams to enhance the development pipeline. The role requires a strong background in automated software development and testing, particularly in an agile environment, and offers the opportunity to work virtually.

Responsibilities

  • Electing or identifying areas/test cases for Automation
  • Designing & Implementing Test Automation Strategy
  • Creating Automation Test Plan and getting approvals
  • Choosing selenium tools and configuring Selenium Test Environment (Ex: Eclipse IDE, Java, Selenium WebDriver and TestNG etc.)
  • Creating, organizing, and managing Test Automation Resources
  • Designing, developing, and executing automated tests
  • Extending existing test automation frameworks and tools
  • Integrating with CI/CD tools and pipeline (i.e. Jenkins)
  • Triage, troubleshoot and document defects
  • Documenting QA procedures for the team
  • Working closely with engineering and QA to manage and improve the development pipeline
  • Performing and writing automated functional, system, regression, and integration testing

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
  • 8+ years Automated Software development and testing experience
  • Experience using at least two (2) automation tools/technologies
  • Java, C# or Python development experience
  • Experience developing test plans and test procedures
  • Comprehensive technical expertise on IT products, operating systems, software, hardware, systems and networks
  • Experience working in an agile environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with EDI and financial transaction systems
  • Experience testing MUMPS, VistA and other VA systems
