About the position

The Software Developer in Test (SDET) position at Syms Strategic Group (SSG) involves supporting a large Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) nationwide program. The role focuses on designing and implementing test automation strategies, creating automation test plans, and executing automated tests. The SDET will work closely with engineering and QA teams to enhance the development pipeline and ensure quality assurance across multiple Scrum teams.

Responsibilities

  • Electing or identifying areas/test cases for Automation
  • Designing & Implementing Test Automation Strategy
  • Creating Automation Test Plan and getting approvals
  • Choosing selenium tools and configuring Selenium Test Environment (Ex: Eclipse IDE, Java, Selenium WebDriver and TestNG etc.)
  • Creating, organizing, and managing Test Automation Resources
  • Designing, developing, and executing automated tests
  • Extending existing test automation frameworks and tools
  • Integrating with CI/CD tools and pipeline (i.e. Jenkins)
  • Triage, troubleshoot and document defects
  • Documenting QA procedures for the team
  • Performing and writing automated functional, system, regression, and integration testing
  • Supporting multiple Scrum teams as surge requirements dictate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
  • 8+ years Automated Software development and testing experience
  • Experience using at least two (2) automation tools/technologies
  • Java, C# or Python development experience
  • Experience developing test plans and test procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Comprehensive technical expertise on IT products, operating systems, software, hardware, systems and networks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with EDI and financial transaction systems
  • Experience testing MUMPS, VistA and other VA systems helpful but not mandatory.
