About the position

The Software Developer Mainframe position involves serving as a Technical Production Control Specialist, focusing on the development and maintenance of Mainframe JCL and BMC Control-M Scheduler applications. The role requires overseeing complex processing procedures, providing technical expertise, and ensuring system performance while maintaining accuracy and quality for internal and external clients. The incumbent will also support the maintenance of JCL, coordinate changes, and resolve user processing problems, all while contributing to the overall success of the FPPS system on the IBM Enterprise Server.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of Mainframe JCL and BMC Control-M Scheduler applications.
  • Run production and test schedules as needed and work with File Transfer protocols.
  • Oversee complex processing procedures executed for the FPPS system on the IBM Enterprise Server.
  • Analyze system performance and identify cost-saving advances while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Research software advances and present findings to management for potential upgrades or new technologies.
  • Manage group discussions and coordinate changes if feasible and approved by management.
  • Support the maintenance of JCL for the FPPS system at an expert level, modifying specifications as needed.
  • Assist in the design and resolution of interface requirements and coordinate common JCL requirements.
  • Identify failure points, restart ability, and restore requirements, conducting initial research to isolate test failures.
  • Support resolution of user processing problems and coordinate solutions with IT and functional specialists.
  • Perform analyses of production and test processing for performance improvements.

Requirements

  • Expertise in Mainframe JCL and BMC Control-M Scheduler applications.
  • Proficiency in REXX mainframe language and SAS programming language.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and VBA for documentation maintenance.
  • Knowledge of proprietary scripting languages and programming languages such as Visual Basic.
  • Familiarity with job scheduling on z/OS mainframe and Unix systems.
  • Ability to create and maintain webpages using HTML, XML, and CSS.
  • Experience with encryption for email transfers and ensuring confidentiality of PII.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues on the spot.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AI/ML models and data science applications.
  • Familiarity with cyber range platforms and defense contracts.
