About the position

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking a Software Developer Student Intern for the Fall 2024 semester at its Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) located in Huntsville, AL. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in applied research, development, testing, and evaluation of advanced systems related to ground-based air and missile defense as well as rotary-wing aviation systems. Interns will work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing to various defense programs and enhancing customer deliverables through software development. As a Software Developer Intern, the selected candidate will be responsible for writing code in multiple programming languages, supporting a variety of projects. This role is designed for students who are pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting. The internship requires a commitment of 40 hours per week when classes are not in session and 20 hours per week during the academic term, allowing for flexibility in balancing work and study. Responsibilities

  • Write code in multiple programming languages to support various defense projects.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be registered for full-time internship credit if a full-time intern, or for 6+ credit hours if a part-time intern.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages.
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts.
  • Familiarity with Linux and open source tools.
  • Experience with configuration management tools.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Task/team leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies.
