About the position

Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking an experienced Software Developer / Software Engineer to work on dynamic positioning systems for commercial and recreational vessels. The role involves designing and developing software applications, collaborating with hardware engineers, and ensuring software meets user needs and performance standards. Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops software applications and systems for commercial and recreational vessels.
  • Coordinates with hardware engineers and other staff to forecast design feasibility under cost and time constraints.
  • Collaborates with clients and/or internal teams to understand user needs and drafts initial proposals and designs of software.
  • Analyzes user needs and designs software for client use.
  • Develops code and designs software applications based on user specifications.
  • Performs software systems testing with a focus on procedures and programming.
  • Modifies existing software to correct errors or improve performance.
  • Monitors and assists with software testing and validation procedures and programming.
  • Monitors and assists with software installation; ensures application operates within established specifications.
  • Gathers and evaluates user feedback and modifies software for better usability.
  • Designs databases for specific application areas.
  • Determines required system performance standards and hardware configurations based on client specifications, budget, security needs, and other parameters.
  • Collaborates with systems analysts, engineers, and programmers to design systems to support required applications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years of working knowledge and experience in software development, preferably with vessel control systems such as DP (Dynamic Positioning) systems, joystick control systems, vessel monitoring systems, or fuel and emissions monitoring systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent experience or related degree.
  • Experience in one or more of the following required: JavaScript, PostgreSQL, Python, Machine Learning & AI, and/or Aurelia.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
  • Experience working on a variety of software development projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of software systems and programming languages.
  • Proficient with software engineering tools and applications.
