About the position

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking an experienced Software Developer to support the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) in Orlando, Florida. This role is crucial in delivering high-quality software solutions that enhance operational performance for our government customers. As a Software Developer at ASE, you will engage in a variety of tasks that include researching, designing, and developing computer and network software, as well as specialized utility programs. You will analyze user needs and develop software solutions by applying principles and techniques from computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. In this position, you will be responsible for updating existing software and enhancing its capabilities, ensuring that the applications you build are efficient and effective. You will collaborate with a team of professionals to deliver integrated and high-performing software solutions, utilizing various programming languages and tools. Additionally, you may maintain databases within your application area, either working independently or coordinating database development as part of a team. It is important to note that this position is fully on-site due to the air-gapped systems used in our operations, which ensures the security and integrity of our projects. Responsibilities

  • Researches, designs, and develops computer and network software or specialized utility programs.
  • Analyzes user needs and develops software solutions, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
  • Updates software or enhances existing software capabilities.
  • Builds and refines applications using various programming languages and tools and collaborates with the team to deliver integrated and high-performing software solutions.
  • May maintain databases within an application area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in software development, with programming languages such as Python, Pandas, and PyTorch, and experience with Machine Learning.
  • Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering, specializing in Software Engineering.
  • Proven experience in writing, updating, and maintaining efficient, testable, and well-documented code to handle specific jobs such as data handling (CRUD), executing workflows, or executing custom business rules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a penchant for teamwork.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Secret clearance strongly preferred.
  • Data Science and/or big data experience.
  • Familiarity with Spark, SQL, Seaborn, Matplotlib, Plotly, and Dash.
  • SQL and GUI project experience, along with database development.
  • Experience working in large data environments with HPC systems to effectively manage and manipulate large datasets.
