About the position

Fulcrum Consulting, an LRS company, is seeking a Software Developer to partner across IT and with assigned business lines to assess, research, and analyze business, technical, and system needs. The role involves resolving business systems issues by recommending technology solutions that meet sponsor and stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of joint development including hands-on and assists with vendor negotiations where applicable
  • Develops detailed plans and accurate estimates for the design, build, implement and stabilize phases of the project
  • Manage detailed design phases for large projects/programs identifying, tracking and resolving technical issues
  • Ensures solution meets sponsor needs and PLC deliverables
  • Provides consulting services on new and strategic initiatives of varying complexity
  • Researches emerging trends/best practices and determines implications of proposed solutions
  • Develops feasibility studies and proposals for senior management and executive decisions on large complex projects
  • Determines best mix of development, interfacing applications, and third-party vendor solutions to meet business requirements
  • Coordinates with DBA in creating new and modifying existing database structures
  • Provides direction, expertise, feedback, coaching and development to junior staff
  • Spearheads joint technical design sessions with SaaS vendor

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a real-world setting with Java
  • Understanding of SQL Server or similar enterprise-class SQL database
  • Use of JDBC and ACID transactions in a server application
  • Experience with REST web services (client and server)
  • Ability to accept a technical user story and take it from design through coding and testing with minimal supervision
  • Ability to fully unit test development work with automated unit tests
  • Strong object-oriented fundamentals, including familiarity with SOLID concepts

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Java running on Linux
  • Experience with RedHat OpenShift or similar cloud platform
  • Some familiarity with lightweight/utility web UI development
  • Dev-ops experience with Docker or similar container ecosystem
  • Experience with Kafka, IBM MQ, or similar messaging technology
  • Experience with Java build and test tools such as JUnit and Gradle
