About the position

Software Developer at Intuitive Machines is a pivotal role within an innovative and cutting-edge space company dedicated to making cislunar space accessible to both public and private customers. The mission of Intuitive Machines is to further science and exploration, communications, and economic progress from the Earth to the Moon and beyond. With the first commercial lunar landing in history and multiple NASA lunar missions in development, the company prides itself on supporting its customers and the nation in paving the way for the return of humans to the surface of the Moon. The team comprises world-class experts in spacecraft subsystems design, development, testing, on-orbit operations, and safety. As a Software Developer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining software tools that process and analyze lunar imagery captured by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC). You will collaborate with team members to design and implement software solutions that address specific scientific needs, assisting in the creation and management of data processing pipelines for high-resolution lunar images. Your role will also involve debugging and optimizing existing software applications to enhance performance and accuracy, documenting software development processes, and creating user guides for the applications developed. Regular participation in team meetings to discuss project progress and troubleshoot issues will be essential to ensure the success of the projects you are involved in.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software tools for processing and analyzing lunar imagery captured by the LROC.
  • Collaborate with team members to design and implement software solutions that address specific scientific needs.
  • Assist in the creation and management of data processing pipelines for high-resolution lunar images.
  • Debug and optimize existing software applications to improve performance and accuracy.
  • Document software development processes and create user guides for developed applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Familiarity with image processing techniques and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with astronomical data analysis or space mission operations.
  • Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing techniques.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Background in lunar or planetary science.
