About the position

Amazon Web Services is seeking an experienced software development engineer to join the EC2 VPC team in Herndon, VA. This role focuses on developing core software that supports the AWS cloud infrastructure, particularly in networking and virtualization. The position involves engaging in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from feature definition to testing, while ensuring high-quality software delivery and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities

• Define and build core software for AWS cloud networking and virtualization.
• Engage in all parts of the software development lifecycle, including defining and testing new features.
• Support and maintain code in production, ensuring high quality through rigorous code reviews.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities to resolve production issues and improve system reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional growth through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Establish technical direction and foster a positive team culture.

Requirements

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Nice-to-haves

• 3+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Knowledge of best practices for software development life cycle and operational excellence.
• Experience building complex software systems delivered to customers.
• Experience with modern programming languages such as Java, C++, or C#.
