About the position

The Software Development Engineer position on the Open Data Analytics Fundamentals team at Amazon Web Services (AWS) focuses on enhancing the Amazon EMR platform, which enables customers to run large-scale data processing workloads. The role involves building and maintaining microservices for EMR releases, improving security, reducing cluster startup time, and developing features for big data applications. The engineer will work on monitoring metrics and creating visualizations to enhance customer experience and ensure efficient operation of EMR clusters.

Responsibilities

• Design and build next-generation infrastructure technologies for large-scale big data processing workloads.
• Develop and support sophisticated software tools in big data processing frameworks to enhance customer experience.
• Collaborate with app developers, Data Engineers, SDEs, and TPMs to address complex software challenges.
• Design and develop software solutions/tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed of AWS projects.
• Solve infrastructure challenges involving software, big data, and large-scale backend cloud services.
• Enhance existing software tools/infrastructure and develop new solutions in partnership with a global team.

Requirements

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Nice-to-haves

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
