About the position

As a Software Development Manager for the Activation Team at Zillow, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the home buying, selling, and financing experience for users. The Activation team is dedicated to enhancing user engagement by converting first-time and unknown users into known, authenticated, and long-term users who prefer to shop, connect, and transact on Zillow. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding a full-stack engineering team to build high-quality and delightful user experiences that align with this mission. In this role, you will manage a team of software engineers, providing them with the necessary guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes. You will cultivate leadership skills within your team by fostering an inclusive environment and creating opportunities for growth and development. Your responsibilities will include leading your team in designing systems that expand Zillow's suite of products while balancing quality, speed-to-market, and scalability for customer-facing features. You will also be tasked with continuously iterating upon the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process to deliver quality software predictably. Upholding a high standard of software engineering excellence is essential, and you will work closely with your peers to identify gaps and areas for improvement. Additionally, fostering strong cross-functional relationships across the organization will be key to promoting collaboration and ensuring alignment on project goals. This position is categorized as a teleworker role, allowing you to work from a location of your choice within Mexico, preferably Mexico City, to facilitate occasional in-office events. Alongside a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on experience, performance, and location.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Lead your team to design the systems necessary to expand our suite of products while balancing quality, speed-to-market, and scalability for customer-facing features.
  • Continuously iterate upon the SDLC process of your team with the goal of delivering quality software predictably.
  • Uphold a high standard of software engineering excellence, working closely with your peers to identify gaps and areas for engineering improvements.
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships across the organization to promote collaboration and ensure alignment on project goals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of management experience, with a proven track record of developing and leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • 5-7 years of Agile software development experience, on both frontend and backend technologies.
  • Passion for mentoring, growing the potential of others, and supporting direct reports.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners and stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, and Marketing to deliver results.
  • Iterative approach to software development combined with the commitment to ownership, moving fast and thinking big.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments with minimal oversight.
