About the position

The Software Development Manager for AWS Region Services will lead the development of scalable and secure services that enhance the deployment of AWS features globally. This role involves collaborating with product, engineering, and science leaders to create innovative solutions that impact millions of customers. The manager will be responsible for guiding the design and implementation of large-scale services, nurturing talent, and contributing to long-term business strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the design, implementation, and deployment of successful, large-scale services
  • Identify and lead work on complex systems with company-wide impact
  • Coordinate multi-team, cross-functional projects
  • Nurture talent through hiring, mentoring, and career development
  • Contribute to business planning and long-term strategy alongside senior executives
  • Review architectural designs and provide technical guidance
  • Participate in planning sessions to align team goals with business objectives
  • Mentor team members and foster their professional growth
  • Collaborate with product managers to refine feature roadmaps
  • Engage with other AWS teams to ensure seamless integration of services

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above
