About the position

The Software Development Manager for AWS Security at Amazon Foundational Security Services (AFSS) is responsible for leading a high-performing team that develops and operates internal security services for various Amazon businesses. This role involves overseeing the software architecture, development, and operations of security systems, ensuring they meet the needs of users while maintaining a strong security foundation. The position emphasizes a culture of learning, innovation, and collaboration, with a focus on delivering solutions that enhance user experience and security.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a high-performing software development team.
  • Oversee the software architecture, development, and operations of internal security systems.
  • Collaborate with users to design and prototype new security features.
  • Deploy software through automated systems and support newly deployed software operationally.
  • Drive the strategic direction of the team and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Embrace learnings from failures and iterate quickly to improve processes and products.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in communicating with users and technical teams to gather requirements and describe product features.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams.
