About the position

The Software Development Manager role at Amazon Foundational Security Services (AFSS) involves leading a high-performing team responsible for developing and operating internal security systems that support various Amazon businesses. The position emphasizes a DevOps approach, focusing on the full software lifecycle, user experience, and security outcomes. The manager will oversee software architecture, development, and operations while fostering a culture of learning and innovation within the team.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage a high-performing software development team.
• Oversee software architecture, development, and operations for internal security systems.
• Collaborate with users to design and prototype new security features.
• Deploy software through automated systems and support newly deployed software operationally.
• Implement radical new approaches to automate fixes for operational issues.
• Work with AWS services to solve design problems and integrate applications.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in communicating with users and technical teams to collect requirements and describe software product features.
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing teams of Software Engineers.
