About the position

Chewy is seeking a Software Development Manager for our Supply Chain and Data Science Platform Team, located in either Boston, MA or Plantation, FL. This pivotal role will provide the opportunity to influence the vision and implementation of architecture, design, and features that have a direct impact on the company's bottom line. Your expertise will be crucial in evaluating and adopting cutting-edge data science technologies, tools, and methodologies to drive innovation and enhance predictive capabilities. You will also be responsible for establishing and enforcing coding standards, conducting regular code reviews, and implementing automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure the continuous integration and delivery of high-quality software. Your AWS expertise will be essential in architecting and implementing scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud solutions, utilizing services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and ECS/EKS. Project planning and execution will be a key part of your responsibilities, as you will collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to manage backlogs, prioritize features, and establish realistic timelines. You will drive project execution by identifying key milestones, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. As a manager, you will lead a team of software engineers, mentoring and coaching them to develop their technical skills and career growth. You will foster a supportive and inclusive team culture that values diversity and collaboration, while also identifying training opportunities to enhance the team's capabilities. Cross-functional collaboration will be essential, as you will work closely with product management, design, quality assurance, and operations teams to align priorities and deliver integrated solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership in developing, deploying, and maintaining data science models and algorithms.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists and engineers to translate business requirements into scalable and efficient data-driven solutions.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of cutting-edge data science technologies, tools, and methodologies to drive innovation and enhance predictive capabilities.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, code review processes, and quality assurance practices.
  • Conduct regular code reviews, providing constructive feedback to team members to improve code quality, readability, and maintainability.
  • Implement automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous integration and delivery of high-quality software.
  • Utilize expertise in AWS services to architect and implement scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
  • Design and deploy cloud-native applications leveraging services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and ECS/EKS.
  • Implement best security, compliance, and performance optimization practices in AWS environments.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to manage backlog, prioritize features, and establish realistic timelines.
  • Drive project execution, identifying key milestones and dependencies, resourcing, monitoring progress, addressing impediments, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Manage a team of software engineers responsible for building Chewy's Supply Chain and Data science platform initiative.
  • Mentor and coach team members, guiding technical skills development, career growth, and professional excellence.
  • Identify team training opportunities and skill gaps, implementing initiatives to enhance technical capabilities and expertise.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive team culture that values diversity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit and hire new engineers and mentor the growth of the existing team.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, quality assurance, and operations, to align priorities and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between teams, resolving conflicts and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, or a similar math or engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Software Development as a software/data engineer.
  • Excellent ability to manage teams and lead from the front.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, focusing on driving results and delivering value to stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python with hands-on experience in data analysis, modeling, and visualization.
  • Extensive experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and proficiency in cloud architecture design and implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB.
  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and tools (e.g., JIRA, Git).
  • Extensive experience with data science tools and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and deep learning techniques.
  • Solid fundamental background in multiple testing disciplines (e.g., APIs, Functional UI testing, Performance testing, data-oriented systems testing, distributed systems, etc.).
