About the position

The Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief Systems Group is seeking specialists and engineers in remote sensing, data exploitation, and algorithm development to join interdisciplinary teams. The role focuses on the research, design, development, and implementation of advanced technologies aimed at addressing significant challenges in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, climate change, and global development. Candidates will work on integrating advanced technologies and analytical methods to enhance decision-making and operational effectiveness in these critical areas.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and develop advanced technologies for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
  • Integrate remote sensing and situational awareness technologies into disaster relief operations.
  • Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning to humanitarian challenges.
  • Create software decision support and data visualization platforms for critical decision-making.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of foundational theories in geography/geoscience.
  • Extensive practical experience in advanced geospatial analyses.
  • Understanding of decision support systems and experience in their development.
  • Experience in computational epidemiology, particularly social network analysis and agent-based simulations.
  • Proficiency with modern geographic information systems (GIS) and database infrastructure like POSTGIS.
  • Experience in developing algorithms for spatial partitioning and routing.
  • Familiarity with developing risk metrics.
  • Proficient in scientific programming languages and tools (Python, MATLAB) and geospatial libraries (e.g., GeoPandas).
  • Experience with machine learning and algorithm development.
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs) and their applications.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • A PhD in a relevant technical field, or an MS with 5+ years or a BS with 10+ years of directly related experience.
