About the position

ECS is seeking a qualified Software Engineer/Applications Programmer (Int) to support transformative science and technology solutions for the Department of Energy. This role involves system integration, design, and testing of software solutions, contributing to multiple projects in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and codes software components, units, and modules that meet product specifications and development schedules.
  • Tests and debugs assigned components and units.
  • Participates in large system and subsystem planning.
  • Adheres to product build and release schedules and strategies.
  • Acts as a technical resource for lower-level developers.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of one or more platforms and operating systems, and of programming languages.
  • Typically requires knowledge of one or more systems architectures.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude expected.
  • Works under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field AND two years of practical experience in programming and coding
  • OR Associate's Degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field AND four years of practical experience in programming and coding
  • OR Six years of practical experience in programming and coding
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or DOE Q clearance throughout the life of the contract
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must currently live in Morgantown, WV or willing to relocate
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Top Secret or DOE Q Clearance with the ability to maintain clearance throughout the life of the contract.
  • Two or more years experience supporting US Government customers
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Experience supporting complex government and programs of a research and development nature
  • Experience with data storage, standards, and structuring of data.
  • Experience utilizing containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, podman)
  • Ability to automate data engineering processes within Linux environments including data wrangling and AI model development enablement
  • Highly proficient in software and network security, back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Highly skilled in managing servers access for multiple, simultaneous, external vendors, Government, academia, and industry.
  • Ability to coach/mentor junior technical resources.
