About the position

The Software Engineer, Applied Scientist, Audio role at Meta focuses on developing advanced speech and audio enhancement algorithms for wearables. This position is part of the Reality Lab team, which aims to create innovative Augmented and Virtual Reality experiences. The role requires collaboration across multiple disciplines, including digital signal processing, machine learning, and software architecture, to enhance human and machine listening capabilities in consumer hardware devices.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and develop advanced signal processing algorithms with application to speech and audio.
  • Define and build new algorithms and add enhancements to existing algorithms to support human listening, machine listening, and other new experiences for Meta's consumer hardware devices.
  • Build specialized Machine Learning (ML) for resource constrained platforms. Explore new paradigms in AI and Machine learning for sensor fusion.
  • Hands on with implementation and optimization of algorithms classical DSP and ML inference engines for specific chipsets.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning for the next generation of platforms.
  • Collaborate with researchers and applied scientists from multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborate with User Experience Research in design of experiments and data collection and analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Solid understanding in fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing.
  • 5+ years software development experience including DSP and audio algorithm development.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience working across disciplines to drive optimal solutions and supporting cross functional teams.
  • Experience with C or C++ and with scientific programming languages such as MATLAB, Python or similar.
  • Experience in any of the following areas: Small footprint ML, Differential DSP, Echo/Noise reduction, Spatial Processing.
  • Experience with custom or commercially available DSP development frameworks.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Expertise in audio signal processing both classical and machine learning techniques.
  • Proven track record of innovation as demonstrated by products shipped, publications and/or patents.
  • Proven track record of contribution in 2 or more of these areas: Design and deployment of ML models on resource constrained devices, Near and Far field spatial processing, Adaptive System Identification, Multirate systems and filter banks, Speech and audio compression, Room Acoustics.

  • $70.67/hour to $208,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
