About the position

The Software Engineer, Computer Vision - Encoders position at Meta involves leading the development and implementation of calibration models, algorithms, and software for advanced sensors, cameras, and illumination systems. This role is crucial in enhancing the interaction in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies, focusing on improving calibration accuracy and simplifying data capture processes. The engineer will also play a key role in cross-functional collaborations and contribute to the growth of the calibration team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of calibration models and algorithms for novel sensors, cameras, and illumination systems.
  • Conduct experiments and data collection to validate calibration algorithms and enhance system performance.
  • Co-create the roadmap and vision for R&D initiatives focused on hardware calibration and data capture.
  • Drive cross-functional collaborations with partner teams, including calibration, AR/VR hardware, and display calibration.
  • Explore and leverage novel technologies to improve calibration accuracy and enable online calibration.
  • Contribute to recruitment, mentoring, onboarding, and the growth of the calibration cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Skilled in writing efficient and maintainable C++ code.
  • Experience in camera, sensor, SLAM, or illuminator calibration.
  • Proficient in computer vision, image analysis, and model fitting.
  • Experience mentoring and acting as a project technical lead.
  • Familiarity with image data and software infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar relevant discipline.
  • Experience in robotics and automated trajectory optimization.
  • Familiarity with on-device software systems.
  • Experience in AR/VR.
