About the position
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. We are looking for good people and driven, adaptable, resilient software engineers with experience developing software to accelerate quality, speed, and efficiency of manufacturing processes at SpaceX. Our team is building out the next generation of in-process monitoring tools for SpaceX as we develop the Starship, Raptor and Starlink programs while scaling up the Falcon and Dragon programs. We have the unique opportunity to work across all programs at SpaceX and be impactful to them all. Our team consists of engineers developing best in class in process monitoring solutions for data collection and automated analysis. We use statistical analysis, automated defect recognition, and machine learning to support and expedite the company's manufacturing rate and quality goals. We also develop reliable, scalable, and efficient numerical analysis solvers to support these processes via simulation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and own process monitoring software for a variety of SpaceX production locations and programs
- Develop automated defect recognition computer vision models for manufacturing
- Design and write the software to connect hardware and tooling to process monitoring systems
- Work with data pipelines from production line to web application interfaces
- Work closely with simulation and machine learning experts to link model outputs to process inputs
- Deep dive into your users' problems to find and create efficient solutions
- Work closely with our production engineers and technicians to provide the best first principles solution to their needs
- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or engineering discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree
- Development experience in Python, C++, or C#
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in Python, C++, C# or similar object-oriented language
- Experience in computer vision libraries such as OpenCV and CUDA
- Experience with machine learning operations in production with tools like MLFlow, Ray, Tensorboard
- Experience deploying applications to production with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience integrating sensors and automation with in-house solutions
- Experience with web development frameworks such as Flask, SQLAlchemy and FastAPI
- Experience working with stream data processing using Apache Kafka or similar technologies
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as React or similar JavaScript UI frameworks
- Experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies
- Experience with Linux applications and server components
- Experience with data exploration and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Jupyter
- Experience with manufacturing
- Knowledge of statistics, machine learning algorithms and frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX, Scikit-learn
- Knowledge of version control, testing, continuous integration, build, deployment and monitoring
