About the position

The Hardware in the Loop (HiL) End-of-Line Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting product development and system integration processes within the automotive industry. This position focuses on developing test methods for automated execution and implementing tests using Hardware in the Loop equipment. The engineer is responsible for documenting and reviewing execution reports, reporting incidents, and tracking software updates to address any issues that arise during testing. In this role, the HiL Engineer will develop expertise in software test design and will possess advanced knowledge in vehicle functional partitioning, electrical and communication architectures, embedded software processes, and the Global Product Development System. Close collaboration with feature owners, engineering teams, and suppliers is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of vehicle functions. This understanding will enable the engineer to implement effective test design strategies aimed at early defect identification and providing evidence of defect elimination. The engineer will serve as the single point of contact for the test organization, managing test projects for assigned features and programs. This includes defining the integration and scope of testing, managing communications, and assessing risks. The role also involves analyzing requirements, vehicle components, electrical schematics, functional specifications, and FMEA documentation to ensure thorough test coverage and effective execution.

Responsibilities

  • Support product development and system integration processes by developing test methods for automated execution.
  • Implement tests using Hardware in the Loop equipment and document execution reports.
  • Report incidents and track software updates to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate closely with feature owners, engineering teams, and suppliers to understand vehicle functions.
  • Manage the test project for assigned features and programs, including integration, scope, coverage, time, communications, and risk.
  • Develop and negotiate the testing scope and statement of work.
  • Support tradeoff analysis of test requirements versus test environment capabilities.
  • Analyze requirements, vehicle components electrical schematics, functional specifications, and FMEA documentation.
  • Design, maintain, and execute test procedures in alignment with test design guidelines and strategy.
  • Document test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management requirements.
  • Implement and validate test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management solutions.
  • Develop test procedures to validate the test environment (intake tests).
  • Analyze test execution results to generate reports, document incidents, and drive them to resolution.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems and test environment functionality to minimize false positive incident reports.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies for test design, management, and execution processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in automotive software development or validations.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development life cycle - CMMI or Agile process experience.
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing software testing or quality assurance methodologies or ISTQB test methods.
  • 2+ years of experience testing Global diagnostics part -1 or Part -2 specification experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in validation support of dSPACE or NI HIL simulators hardware.
  • 2+ years of experience in dSPACE control and automation desk software.
  • 2+ years of experience in test automation and scripting development.
  • 2+ years of experience in distributed feature testing experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in ADAS/DAT feature testing support.
  • 2+ years of experience using Scaled Agile Framework SAFE implementing agile practices and setting up SW development workflows at an enterprise scale.
  • Functional understanding of ASPICE SW development process and ISO26262 functional safety standard.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in development and execution of functional test procedures within a software or vehicle testing organization.
  • Experience in bench testing of distributed electrical systems including bench functional integration, test execution, measuring and instrumentation, incident reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Experience in electrical schematics for vehicle components and systems and electrical architectures of distributed systems.
  • Experience with development and verification of embedded software using hardware in the loop equipment and software (E.g. dSpace, National Instruments).
  • Experience in test automation collaboration with Germany team.
