About the position

The Software Engineer, Core Platforms at Paylocity is responsible for developing responsive and visually appealing user interfaces for web applications. Responsibilities

• Develop responsive and visually appealing user interfaces for web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Collaborate with designers to implement UI/UX designs and ensure consistency across different platforms and devices.
• Write clean, maintainable, and modular code following best practices and coding standards.
• Work closely with backend engineers to integrate frontend components with server-side logic and APIs.
• Optimize application performance by identifying and addressing frontend bottlenecks and implementing efficient solutions.
• Conduct thorough testing of frontend features and functionalities to ensure compatibility, usability, and accessibility.
• Troubleshoot and debug frontend issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement timely resolutions.
• Stay updated on emerging frontend technologies, tools, and trends, and evaluate their potential impact on our projects.
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate with team members to improve code quality and maintainability.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, workflows, and tools to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Proven experience (2 years) as a Frontend Software Engineer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing frontend projects and contributions.
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, with a solid understanding of DOM manipulation, event handling, and asynchronous programming.
• Experience with frontend frameworks and libraries: React.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), package managers (e.g., npm), and build tools (e.g., Webpack).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug and troubleshoot complex frontend issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality, pixel-perfect UIs that meet design specifications.
• Knowledge of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility.
• A passion for learning and staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure, GCP)
• Familiarity with frontend testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright preferred, Jest, Enzyme, Cypress) and automated testing practices.
• Understanding of web performance optimization techniques and tools.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and experience in building accessible web applications.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and AJAX techniques.
• Previous experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and familiarity with project management tools like Jira or Asana.
• Contributions to open-source projects, participation in developer communities, or attendance at tech conferences/events.
