About the position

Join our team to be a part of the exciting transformation as we migrate UMD computing systems to a modern cloud-based solution. The Software Engineer, Data Conversion will use various technologies to migrate data from legacy systems to the Workday platform as part of the Workday Student implementation. This position is hands-on, agile, and involves team-based development. The Software Engineer is responsible for implementing solutions within a development team, following a formal development methodology, and working within scheduled timelines. Additionally, the role includes participating in peer code reviews, documentation, and formal testing. This position is considered essential and may require working at the normal work location or an alternative location during major catastrophic events, weather emergencies, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing solutions within a development team.
  • Following a formal development methodology and working within scheduled timelines.
  • Participating in peer code reviews, documentation, and formal testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions from more senior team members but also able to work independently.
  • Basic mentorship to junior staff members.
  • A demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time.
  • Skilled in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ETL platforms like Informatica/Fabric/Datastage.
  • Experience with SQL and Python.
  • Experience using AWS for data applications (e.g. S3, Redshift).
  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Ability to conduct research and data analysis.
