About the position

As part of the IT Digital Manufacturing team, the IT Software Engineer, Digital Manufacturing will play a crucial role in supporting projects related to Production, Quality, and Maintenance across our extensive network of over 70 manufacturing sites throughout North America. This position is integral to CertainTeed's digitization and digital transformation efforts, focusing on enhancing processes across a diverse range of product lines. Reporting directly to the Sr. Manager of Industrial Applications, the Software Engineer will be tasked with designing, developing, and delivering scalable solutions that leverage the Ignition platform and its integrated MES system, Sepasoft. In this role, the Software Engineer will not only contribute to the development of high-quality software solutions but will also be mentored to become an engineering expert in systems and functions related to MES, SCADA, PLC, Sensors, Historians, and Data Tagging. A significant emphasis will be placed on mastering the Ignition platform, which is pivotal for the success of our manufacturing operations. The position requires participation in rotating on-call shifts and providing on-the-floor production operation support, ensuring rapid problem-solving and efficient operations in a 24/7 factory environment. The Software Engineer will collaborate with a diverse team that includes Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Controls, and Product teams to ensure that project requirements are met effectively. Responsibilities will include developing and designing SCADA systems, creating user-friendly HMI interfaces, writing and troubleshooting scripts, and integrating various industrial devices and PLCs. Additionally, the role involves performing routine maintenance on SCADA systems, creating comprehensive documentation, and providing training and support to end-users as needed. The Software Engineer will also be expected to promote process optimization and contribute to the development of business process documentation and presentations for management teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deliver, and evolve MES HMI and Mobility solutions.
  • Advocate for high-quality Ignition/Sepasoft practices and standards.
  • Participate in rotating on-call shifts and provide on-the-floor Production Operation support.
  • Collaborate with internal and business project teams to understand system specifications and design user-friendly HMI interfaces.
  • Write and troubleshoot scripts, SQL queries, and logic to integrate data sources, SAP, and automated processes.
  • Develop and design SCADA systems using the Ignition platform to meet project requirements.
  • Integrate SCADA systems with various industrial devices, PLCs, and other process control systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and updates to SCADA systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for SCADA system designs, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver successful SCADA projects.
  • Provide training and support to end-users as needed.
  • Design business processes and document system integration points.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in IT or related field OR relevant experience in the required field.
  • 5+ years' experience with Ignition including design, development, and support.
  • 5+ years' experience with Python Scripting at an expert level.
  • 5+ years' experience in Sepasoft, SQL, Java programming, and C programming.
  • Understanding of Plant Infrastructure and the Flow of Machine Data.
  • Exposure to Manufacturing SCADA or other PLC related systems.
  • Understanding of MES applications.
  • Strong business process expertise in Manufacturing, Quality, and Plant Maintenance.
  • Strong IT security understanding.
  • Strong judgment, standards of excellence, and exceptional analytical ability.
  • Ability to work independently and across multiple distinctive teams.
