About the position

Mobile devices have reshaped personal computing—the power of a desktop now fits in our pockets. By giving everyone the building blocks to create their own tools, we'll solve more problems wherever we go. A delightful, intuitive mobile experience: that's our guiding light, and we need iOS engineers to make it a reality.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the team to build new product features for our iOS app, including a better mobile typing experience.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and polish of our iOS app, potentially rewriting a cache system to decrease startup time.
  • Help build and improve internal tools with simplicity and productivity in mind, such as writing scripts to ease the deployment of new app versions.

Requirements

  • Thoughtful problem-solving skills with the ability to decompose tricky problems and work towards clean solutions.
  • Experience in shipping quality apps at scale, familiar with Swift or Objective-C, and handling UI, networking, and threading.
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented mindset, prioritizing projects based on their business impact.
  • User-centric approach, considering the implications of building tools and their impact on real people's lives.
  • Non-ideological about technology, open to learning new technologies as needed.
  • Empathetic communication skills, able to explain technical decisions clearly and engage thoughtfully in discussions.
  • Team player, enjoying collaboration across functions to achieve shared goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building or maintaining Android apps using Kotlin or Java.
  • Proficiency with other parts of the technology stack: React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Postgres.
  • Familiarity with computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay.
  • Interests outside of technology, such as in art, history, or social sciences.
