About the position

We are looking for a highly motivated team member to join our Airborne Information Solutions group in Cedar Rapids, IA, where you will work collaboratively to develop state-of-the-art embedded Linux software solutions. This role involves not only the development of embedded software but also the ownership and enhancement of our development infrastructure using DevOps methodologies. You will collaborate with FPGA, hardware, systems, and software teams to seamlessly integrate advanced technology into our communications product portfolio, supporting commercial customers such as Airbus and Boeing, as well as various US government projects. In this position, you will design, develop, and continuously enhance our customized Linux OS ecosystem, maintaining ownership over critical components such as the build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and Board Support Packages (BSP) for a variety of hardware boards. You will contribute to the design, coding, testing, delivery, and ongoing support for embedded Linux software and drivers, preparing software builds for execution in simulation environments and on target hardware. Additionally, you will prepare embedded test solutions that support hardware qualification activities and apply industry best practices to assist programs with the deployment and support of DevOps solutions. Your role will also involve supporting software tool customization and automation, optimizing build/test pipelines for performance and scalability across both cloud and onsite computing environments. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn about the embedded Linux OS ecosystem lifecycle and embedded test solutions while continuously developing your DevOps skillsets applicable to various infrastructures. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and continuously enhance our customized Linux OS ecosystem.
  • Maintain ownership over areas such as build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and BSP for various hardware boards.
  • Contribute to the design, coding, testing, delivery and ongoing support for embedded Linux software and drivers.
  • Prepare software builds for execution in simulation environments, reference platforms, and on target hardware.
  • Prepare embedded test solutions that support hardware qualification activities.
  • Apply industry best practices to assist programs with deployment, implementation, modernization, and support of DevOps solutions.
  • Support software tool customization and automation, including deployment of templates, dashboards, and scripts to support program needs.
  • Assist with development and support of build/test pipeline and integration, optimizing for performance and scalability across cloud and onsite computing environments.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field, or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status).
  • 2+ years of experience as a command line user of Linux, with mid-level skills in embedded C/C++.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash and Python).
  • Experience with embedded Linux device drivers.
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience deploying and supporting Gitlab CI/CD tooling, pipelines, and automation solutions in a business/enterprise environment.
  • Experience with Linux System Administration and general working knowledge of networks, storage, and virtualization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GIT and SVN version control systems.
  • Experience packaging custom Linux distribution with Buildroot.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Linux board support packages (BSP) for embedded systems.
  • Experience with board bring-up and target hardware integration.
  • Experience using Linux Docker.
  • Experience provisioning cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Atlassian Suite knowledge (JIRA and Confluence in particular).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
