About the position

As a Software Engineer II at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Bank - Data Technology team, you will be part of an agile team dedicated to enhancing, designing, and delivering software components for the firm's advanced technology products. This role is crucial in ensuring that the software solutions are secure, stable, and scalable. You will execute software solutions through the design, development, and technical troubleshooting of various components within a technical product, application, or system. This position is designed for those looking to gain the skills and experience necessary to grow within their role and advance their career in software engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for executing standard software solutions, which includes design, development, and technical troubleshooting. You will write secure and high-quality code using at least one programming language with limited guidance. Your work will involve designing, developing, coding, and troubleshooting while considering the implications for upstream and downstream systems. You will apply your knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to enhance the value derived from automation and utilize technical troubleshooting skills to break down solutions and resolve technical problems of basic complexity. Additionally, you will gather, analyze, and draw conclusions from large and diverse data sets to identify problems and contribute to decision-making processes that support secure and stable application development. You will learn and apply system processes, methodologies, and skills necessary for developing secure and stable code and systems. A key aspect of this role is contributing to a team culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect. A solid understanding of Data Warehousing concepts is also essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Executes standard software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Writes secure and high-quality code using the syntax of at least one programming language with limited guidance.
  • Designs, develops, codes, and troubleshoots with consideration of upstream and downstream systems and technical implications.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve the value realized by automation.
  • Applies technical troubleshooting to break down solutions and solve technical problems of basic complexity.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and draws conclusions from large, diverse data sets to identify problems and contribute to decision-making in service of secure, stable application development.
  • Learns and applies system processes, methodologies, and skills for the development of secure, stable code and systems.
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience.
  • Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages such as SQL.
  • Demonstrable ability to code in one or more languages, such as Java and Unix Shell scripting.
  • Experience across the whole Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Exposure to agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
  • Emerging knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Ab Initio or Informatica ETL programming.
  • Experience with a scheduling tool, especially Control-M.

Nice-to-haves
