About the position

Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. This role involves completing advanced end-to-end engineering tasks for specific system assignments, including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications. The individual will also consult with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications and manage interactions between systems and other technical support areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
  • Perform analysis, assessment, and resolution for defects and incidents of advanced complexity and escalate appropriately.
  • Work independently to tackle well-scoped and loosely scoped problems.
  • Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in work experience.
  • Two years of programming/development experience.
  • Four years of programming/development experience preferred.
  • Four years of DevOps/Site Reliability experience preferred.
  • Experience with shell/bash scripting, Linux, and/or building/deploying applications using CI tools or Pipelines.
  • Experience with application performance monitoring tools like Dynatrace/App D/Grafana/Influx stack or ELK stack.
  • Experience developing, operating, and tuning systems with high-availability and high-throughput.
  • General understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with one or more programming languages is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure is a plus.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools like Terraform is a plus.
  • Experience with Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases is a plus.
