About the position

The Software Engineer III - Ground Software Lead Architect role at Sierra Space involves developing cutting-edge software products for space exploration and related systems. The position requires a strong background in software engineering, with responsibilities spanning the entire product lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and certification. The role emphasizes collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design, develop, test, certify, and improve software products.
  • Perform coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting of systems and software.
  • Lead software teams across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Design and create software for ground segment operations and applications.
  • Utilize Computer Aided Engineering tools in software development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Typically 6 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools.
  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong experience with Object Oriented Programming in languages such as Python, C++, or Rust.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience briefing technical subjects to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience in continuous integration, such as Docker development.
  • Understanding of mission operations centers and command centers.
  • Experience with cloud environments/platforms.
  • Experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
