About the position

As a Software Engineer III in Infrastructure for Cloud SQL at Google, you will be responsible for developing large-scale infrastructure and cloud database services. This role involves working on critical projects that enhance Google Cloud's capabilities, requiring a blend of software development skills and experience with cloud technologies. You will have the opportunity to innovate and take ownership of your work while collaborating with peers and stakeholders to ensure best practices in software development.

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in Golang or Java, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with relational databases and building cloud database services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, large scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Experience with contributing to open source databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Experience with relational databases replication and migration.
  • Experience in designing and developing performance intensive systems w/multithreading and synchronization.
  • Experience in building managed services, especially Database or Storage.
