About the position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. In this critical position, you will protect Google's services against malicious attacks and vulnerabilities in the networking space. You will be working closely with experienced network engineers and security architects to provide a comprehensive approach in support of our security policies and will help draft and implement further policies and build new services as needed. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement network security strategies and procedures including risk reduction and Denial of Service (DoS) mitigation.
  • Develop and maintain services that support authorization, authentication, and accounting on networking devices.
  • Perform security reviews and audits to help Google's distributed engineering organization with network security issues.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for the evolution and enhancement of Google's network security.
  • Function as technical, engineering, and operational subject matter expert for network security by participating in the rotating on call schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in applications security, cryptography, network security, systems security or malware analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience in network programming or developing/designing large software systems.
  • Interest and experience in all aspects of computer and network security entire lifecycle from programming, operations, user experience.
  • Knowledge of techniques, standards, and state of the art capabilities for Authentication/Authorization/Use of Cryptographic Systems.
