About the position
Canonical is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to optimize Ubuntu Server for public clouds. This role involves collaborating with a distributed team to enhance the Ubuntu platform, which is widely used in public cloud environments. The engineer will be responsible for writing high-quality code, debugging issues, and maintaining server packages, while also engaging with the open-source community and commercial partners.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
- Write high quality code to create new features
- Debug issues and produce high quality code to fix them
- Review code produced by other engineers
- Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions
- Assist in the maintenance of Ubuntu Server packages
- Become involved in the planning of new Ubuntu features
- Collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities
- Work with partners to enhance the Ubuntu experience in the cloud
Requirements
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree
- Interest and experience with Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace)
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenStack, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Python, Go, Debian packaging, AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle Cloud, or IBM Cloud
- Ability to frequently switch projects and learn about a wide range of technologies
- Experience in open source projects is a plus
