About the position
Canonical is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to optimize Ubuntu Server, a leading open-source platform widely used in enterprise initiatives. This role involves collaborating with a distributed team to enhance user experience, maintain high-quality software standards, and contribute to the evolution of Ubuntu. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies in a remote-first environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate proactively within a distributed team
- Foster a software ecosystem with seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users
- Debug issues and facilitate their solution together with upstream projects
- Evaluate contributions of other engineers to maintain high-quality software standards
- Own the maintenance of Ubuntu Server packages, including traditional server workloads, virtualization, containers, and language runtimes
- Collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities, with upstream projects, and commercially supported customers
- Shape the future of Ubuntu by contributing new ideas and advising on ongoing work
- Travel globally for internal and external events 2 to 4 weeks per year
Requirements
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree
- Experience with two or more of the following: Distribution Development, debugging issues, creation of test environments, administration and optimization of complex workloads, coding in Python, Go or Rust, packaging or distributing software, and public clouds like AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle Cloud, and IBM Cloud
- Strong soft skills, including curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability
- Passion for technology and working with brilliant people
