About the position

The Software Engineer Principal will lead the technical vision and architecture for a high-traffic e-commerce website, focusing on designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable platforms in cloud environments, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This hands-on leadership role requires a blend of technical expertise, innovation, and leadership to ensure exceptional performance and user experience while integrating cutting-edge technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with product team members to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions.
  • Documents, reviews, and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met.
  • Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases.
  • Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure proactive issue management.
  • Contributes to enterprise-wide tools for destructive testing, automation, or engineering empowerment.
  • Identifies product enhancements to improve user experience.
  • Implements fixes for unsecured code areas as they are discovered.
  • Shares technical solutions that can be used across the organization.
  • Creates foundational code elements for reuse across products.
  • Defines Service Level Objectives to measure reliability in production.

Requirements

  • Mastery of an object-oriented programming language (preferably Java).
  • 10+ years of experience in software development and architecture, with at least 5 years leading e-commerce platforms.
  • Expertise in cloud technologies, particularly GCP.
  • Strong background in microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and serverless technologies.
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable, high-performance systems capable of handling high traffic (10,000+ TPS).
  • Experience with BigQuery, GraphQL, and ML integration for e-commerce applications.
  • Strong knowledge of security, compliance, and data privacy in cloud-based e-commerce.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with other cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience developing or integrating chatbots and conversational AI into e-commerce platforms.
  • Familiarity with SEO optimization and web performance metrics (LCP, FID, CLS).
  • Knowledge of DORA metrics and experience improving developer productivity through tooling and automation.
