About the position

As a Software Engineer in Risk Data Mining at ByteDance, you will play a pivotal role in developing scalable and robust software solutions that address various business risks associated with our products and platforms. Your primary focus will be on creating intelligent, privacy-safe, and secure systems that can effectively respond to challenges such as abusive accounts, fake engagements, and fraudulent activities. You will be responsible for protecting our users, including content consumers, creators, and advertisers, by ensuring the authenticity of community experiences and maintaining platform health. In this position, you will establish reliable and efficient risk defense solutions that reduce the manual workload associated with implementing risk controls. You will work on enhancing the quality of risk defense through advanced techniques in privacy compliance, machine learning, and risk analysis. Your role will involve analyzing various business risk areas, including account integrity, engagement authenticity, and financial safety, to develop comprehensive strategies for risk mitigation. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing automation systems to combat engagement spam and performing data analysis to visualize user behavior effectively. This includes building recommendation engines and mentoring junior-level software engineers to foster a collaborative and innovative team environment. Your contributions will be crucial in driving the success of ByteDance's mission to inspire creativity and enrich life through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable, robust, intelligent, privacy-safe, secure, and product-friendly software, systems, rules, algorithms, or machine learning (ML) models to respond to and mitigate business risks in our products/platforms.
  • Protect our users, including content consumers, creators, and advertisers, by securing platform health and community experience authenticity.
  • Establish reliable, efficient, and modularized risk defense solutions, reducing manual workload on ramping up risk controls on/against new business, risk area, or abusive means.
  • Up-level risk defense quality on privacy/compliance, machine learning, risk perception and analysis, and achieve in-depth defense portfolio.
  • Analyze business risk areas including account integrity, engagement authenticity, anti-spam, API and growth health, live-streaming security, and financial safety (ads or e-commerce).
  • Develop automation systems to stop engagement spam.
  • Perform data analysis and engineering, including building visualization dashboards to analyze user behavior.
  • Build recommendation engines.
  • Mentor junior-level Software Engineers.

Requirements

  • Must have a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any), Information Technology, Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, and 2 years of related work experience; OR a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 years of post-bachelor's, progressive related work experience.
  • 2 years of experience in mining, preparing, cleansing, and analyzing structured data using SQL, Python, and R for metrics creation, root cause analysis, and model preprocessing.
  • Experience using SQL and Spark to query, explore, and manipulate data from Apache Hive and relational database management systems including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience developing graphical and visual representations of data using business intelligence tools like Excel or Tableau.
  • Experience designing experiments to measure the impact of product features using causal inference techniques such as A/B Testing and Difference-in-Difference.
  • Experience building, tuning, and validating statistical models for regression and classification problems in Python and R.
