We also provide U.S. defense and space awareness through ballistic missile testing, guided weapon and aeronautical tests and experiments to defend the United States to ensure our nation's safety. As a member of the Sustaining Engineering team, you would join other smart, talented, and dedicated engineers that pride themselves in analyzing the most difficult challenges for the launch-test range while developing and delivering solutions to meet the needs of the US Space Force and their customers. This position is located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. This position may be eligible for a hybrid telecommuting schedule. Tasks for this position must be performed largely on-site, but later assignments may be performed remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code in one or more programming languages (e.g., Phyton, Jana, C++, JavaScript) that support the development of software applications
  • Debug and troubleshoot code to identify and fix defects and optimize performance
  • Ensure code quality through peer reviews, testing, and adherence to coding standards and best practices
  • Collaborate with internal project team and vendors to design, analyze, and implement software solutions including new virtualization environment for the space launch ranges
  • Develop processes and procedures for administering and supporting existing program and new virtualization environment
  • Participate in designing, developing, troubleshooting and analyzing software programs
  • Assist in customizing purchased applications and assists in maintaining program libraries and manuals based on research and customer needs
  • Coordinate the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects
  • Apply advanced methods, theories and researches techniques and assist in the development, implementation and documentation of processes and procedures to ensure compliance with business practices
  • Additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Effective communication skills with demonstrated capability to brief project information to management and customers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to balance, plan, prioritize and execute projects
  • Ability to work within a dynamic, fast paced environment with time constraints
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field
  • Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience in software engineering and programming/coding
  • Proficient with high level programming languages (Phyton, C++, Java and JavaScript)
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with software coding and in developing innovative software solutions.
  • Proficient in multiple programming languages and adept at problem-solving and debugging.
  • Experience with clean code and collaborative development environments, preferred.
  • VMware experience, preferred.
  • Linux experience (Red Hat), preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Security+ CE certification or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of start date
  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Some travel may be required (less than 10%)
