About the position

The Software Engineer Specialist at American Century Investments plays a crucial role in supporting the Portfolio Management teams by providing leadership in the design, development, implementation, and support of technology tools. This position requires collaboration with various teams to understand their needs and translate them into scalable technology solutions, emphasizing continuous improvement and innovation in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the challenges of the business and apply scalable technology solutions.
  • Work closely with Investment Management, Compliance, Trading, and Research/Analyst teams to provide technology solutions.
  • Engage in application development, systems integration, requirements gathering, documentation, and validation testing of investment applications.
  • Work with complex data sets to provide solutions with an emphasis on scalability, reuse, and analytic robustness.
  • Follow application life cycle standards and procedures closely.
  • Build relationships with internal business partners and vendors.
  • Provide on-call support as part of a team, with occasional overtime required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3+ years of IT experience developing and leading technology solutions.
  • Experience building applications using Spring Framework (Spring Integration, Spring Boot), Microservices, APIs (RESTful, JSON).
  • Working knowledge of Cloud technologies (AWS), containers, non-relational databases.
  • Experience working with sophisticated enterprise users to perform business analysis, extract requirements, implement solutions, and provide training and support.
  • Knowledge of formal application development methodologies.
  • Proficiency in the clear expression of ideas both verbally and in writing with business and technical teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, including financial securities, mutual funds, and ETFs.
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income instruments such as Taxable Bonds, Government Bonds, Municipal Bonds, Futures, Derivatives, and FX.
  • Experience working with Python is preferred.
  • Experience developing cloud native solutions is preferred.
  • Experience with SQL and relational database platforms (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Experience building applications using CI/CD pipeline.
  • Knowledge of project management & Agile methodologies, especially Scrum and Kanban.
