About the position

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video, and our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. The TikTok Privacy & Security Compliance Platform team is dedicated to building user-friendly and efficient tools for compliance work, catering to a diverse range of users including legal teams, data protection officers, engineers, and leadership. This team is actively engaged in projects related to privacy protection, such as Data Retention and Data Minimization, and is responsible for developing tools like Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA), Privacy Objectives, and Risk Management systems. The overarching goal is to enhance the user experience and improve the efficiency of research and development's daily compliance tasks. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will be tasked with building infrastructures that empower TikTok's capabilities in privacy control frameworks and risk management. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers to design functionalities that are not only user-friendly but also efficient for privacy programs. Your role will involve driving privacy and data protection initiatives while working cross-functionally with Infrastructure, Product, and Policy teams. Additionally, you will explore cutting-edge privacy technologies to ensure that data usage aligns with local regulations, thereby contributing to TikTok's commitment to privacy and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Build infrastructures to empower TikTok's capabilities in privacy control framework and risk management.
• Collaborate closely with PM in the design of user-friendly and efficient platform functionalities targeted for privacy programs.
• Drive privacy and data protection efforts and work cross-functionally with Infra, Product and Policy teams.
• Explore cutting-edge privacy technologies to ensure data usage complies with local regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline with at least 2+ years of relevant experience in software engineering.
• Experience in Computer Science fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, software design) and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in object-oriented design methodology and strong software development skills and expertise in Golang/Python/Node.js etc.
• Experience in requirements analysis, design, coding, and unit testing of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant applications.
• Good communication skills.

• Strong product sense, with experience driving platform system from 0 to 1.
• Experience with privacy systems.
• Experience with privacy principles and laws, such as GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA.
• Experience with privacy impact assessments and risk management.
• Experience with implementing privacy by design and default principles in backend systems.
