About the position

Checkr is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the Candidates team, which is vital to the company's mission of providing a fast and fair background check process. The role involves developing and maintaining systems that manage candidate application flows, enhancing data processing capabilities, and ensuring a smooth experience for candidates. The Software Engineer will work on high-impact projects that contribute directly to Checkr's core functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product development of features from design, implementation, to release
  • Partner with product, design and other stakeholders in designing new features
  • Collaborate with other engineers in architecting and implementing new features
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve our products
  • Deliver performant, reliable, scalable, and secure code capable of supporting hundreds of thousands of transactions a day
  • Monitor, investigate, triage, and resolve production issues as they arise for services owned by the team
  • Bring a customer-centric, product-oriented mindset to the table
  • Experimentation mindset - validate a customer need, get team buy-in, and ship a rapid MVP
  • Quality mindset - insist on quality as a critical pillar of software deliverables
  • Develop new end to end web applications
  • Instrument and deploy new product experiments with a data-driven mindset

Requirements

  • 3+ years of full stack software development experience
  • Proficiency in Javascript, React and Ruby (or similar languages/frameworks)
  • Proficiency with test frameworks and automation (e.g. Cypress)
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs
  • Strong documentation skills
  • A strong sense of ownership from feature design through production release
  • A desire to collaborate with external stakeholders
  • An eagerness to learn, collaborate, improve, innovate, and have fun

Nice-to-haves

  • Bonus points for experience with in-house component-based design systems
  • Some good product sense - not every UI flow will have a mockup ready for you :)
