About the position

The Software Engineering Department Manager at Peraton will lead a team of over 175 engineers, driving innovation and excellence in software engineering for NASA's COSMOS program. This senior technical manager role involves strategic leadership, collaboration with key stakeholders, and the implementation of advanced engineering methodologies to support human spaceflight operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership, vision, and guidance to the Software Engineering Department.
  • Collaborate with the COSMOS Chief Engineer & Innovation Officer to evolve products and services for Human Space Flight.
  • Promote Digital Engineering (DE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches.
  • Implement and uphold Software Engineering methodologies across the program.
  • Develop operations concepts, design specifications, interface documentation, and test plans.
  • Ensure availability of experts and Agile Teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Provide technical staff for mission-critical operations and 24x7 on-call support.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across COSMOS processes.
  • Develop comprehensive technical reports and documentation.
  • Coordinate and mentor technical personnel and interns for succession planning.

Requirements

  • BS Degree (or equivalent) in Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of management experience leading organizations greater than 30 personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience in software design with IT security management.
  • Experience leading Agile, DE, and MBSE initiatives.
  • Proficient in SAFe, CMMI Level III, DevOps/DevSecOps practices, ITIL V4 Framework, and Hybrid Cloud Architectures.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS Degree in Engineering.
  • Certifications such as ISC2 Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), CISSP, or CISM.
  • Experience leading AI/ML solutions development.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $135,000 - $216,000 based on experience and other factors.
