About the position

As a Software Engineering Director at Duolingo, you will lead cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions in the newly launched Music area. This role combines strategic leadership with technical expertise, focusing on shaping the future of learning through effective management and collaboration. You will define strategies, set roadmaps, and ensure the successful execution of technical projects while fostering relationships across product, design, and data science teams.

Responsibilities

• Define the strategy and set the roadmap for your teams
• Be a strong cross-functional partner with product, design, and data science
• Train and coach newer managers and engineering leads
• Navigate complex leadership situations, ensuring alignment and making key decisions
• Shape key decisions about architecture and implementation of scalable engineering solutions
• Drive the planning, execution, and success of technical projects

Requirements

• Strong technical background and experience in engineering management
• Deep understanding of business and industry trends
• Solid product sense and familiarity with the product being built
• Ability to manage and mentor other managers and leads
