The Launch and Missile Defense Systems (LMDS) division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is seeking a Software Engineering Manager 2 to support the Command and Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) program. This position is located in Huntsville, AL, and is integral to the advancement of the missile defense industry. The Software Engineering Manager will oversee a team of over 40 members, ensuring effective staffing, employee development, and continuous improvement of engineering practices. This role requires a balance of managerial duties (40%) and technical responsibilities (60%) on the program. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance for themselves and their team. They will lead subordinate department managers in their support of engineering teams, fostering effective collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. A commitment to ethics and integrity, along with the capability to innovate while challenging traditional business practices, is essential. The position involves working with various sites, stakeholders, and functions to achieve outstanding results, thriving in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations and diverse assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 9 years of technical experience in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Integration and Test engineering, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or a PhD and 4 years of related experience.
  • Prior experience leading teams as a technical lead or functional manager.
  • Working knowledge of staffing practices, engineering metrics, training resources, agile processes, and engineering tools.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time to support business needs.
  • Current active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Knowledge of Missile Defense Systems and Software Applications, including C2BMC experience.
  • Proven technical management experience in an Integrated Product Team (IPT).
  • Experience effectively leading diverse technical teams across multiple locations.
