About the position

The Software Engineering Manager 2 at Northrop Grumman is responsible for leading a team of 10-20 individuals in the full software development life cycle within an Agile environment. This role involves collaboration with various engineering teams to meet mission objectives, manage budgets and schedules, and ensure high-quality software delivery for flight and mission-critical systems. The position combines technical leadership with managerial responsibilities, reporting to both the IPT Lead and the Center Software Department Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in the full software development life cycle.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.
  • Manage and report budget and schedule status for software development.
  • Oversee the quality and timeliness of software products.
  • Support program Initial Baseline Review (IBRs) and associated reviews as required.
  • Provide functional management to direct reports, including career guidance and staffing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 7 years of related experience.
  • Prior leadership experience in Agile development environments.
  • Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience developing software for real-time applications such as flight critical or mission critical software.
  • At least 4 years of experience with C, C++, and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems like Wind River VxWorks or Realtime Linux.
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.

  • An advanced degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Prior experience in engineering functional management.
  • Experience leading a team of 5-12 employees.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software architectures.
