About the position

The Software Engineering Manager for Audio Software Experiences at Google is responsible for leading a team of engineers in the development of innovative audio technologies for consumer electronic devices. This role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and ensure the optimization of engineering processes. The manager will oversee large-scale projects, guide the team in technical and strategic directions, and foster a collaborative environment across multiple teams and locations.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.
  • Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role.
  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, providing feedback and coaching.
  • Develop the mid-term technical idea and roadmap within the scope of the team.
  • Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the broader area.
  • Write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 10 years of experience in software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience with Audio technologies for consumer electronic devices.
  • 3 years of experience working in a changing organization.
